About

Recognized as the world's leading and largest association for travel professionals, the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) serves as a global advocate for travel agencies, the broader travel industry, and the traveling public. Established in New York City on April 20, 1931, as the American Steamship and Tourist Agents Association, it adopted its current name in 1944. ASTA’s core mission focuses on enhancing the professionalism and profitability of its member agents through effective representation in government and industry affairs, alongside robust education and training programs. The organization champions ethical and traveler-friendly practices and policies across all levels of government and the hospitality sector, with all members adhering to a shared code of ethics. ASTA actively defends the business and regulatory public policy interests of various travel intermediaries – including traditional and online travel agencies, corporate agencies, and tour providers. Its members account for approximately 80 percent of all travel sold in the United States via the travel agency distribution channel. Membership spans over 10,000 domestic travel agency and supplier companies, employing more than 100,000 individuals, supplemented by hundreds of international members in over 123 countries. Beyond advocacy, ASTA fosters growth by encouraging networking, providing resources, and offering industry certifications.
