Ulu Ai Conservancy

A non-profit organization managing Malaysia's longest-running community-based tourism partnership – a decades-long collaboration with the Iban community of Batang Ai in Sarawak. This initiative, The Ulu Ai Project, forms the core of the conservancy's work. It facilitates tours that center on the region's clean rivers and pristine rainforests, with itineraries that include longhouse visits, guided jungle walks, and excursions to local waterfalls. Established by tour operator Borneo Adventure, the Ulu Ai Conservancy channels all funding toward vital community and conservation projects within the Heart of Borneo. The organization’s objectives extend beyond tourism to include improving livelihoods for community youth and women, fostering sustainable development, and championing responsible environmental management. Its dual role in both tourism and conservation is also represented on an international stage at events like WTM London.
