Borneo Cultures Museum

The largest museum in Malaysia and the second-largest in Southeast Asia, the Borneo Cultures Museum is a major institution in Kuching dedicated to the cultural and natural heritage of the island. Its five floors house extensive collections that range from archaeological findings and historical artifacts to indigenous arts and the region's unique biodiversity. The architecture itself draws inspiration from Borneo's traditional crafts and natural elements. The museum's exhibitions focus on the cultural narratives of Sarawak's diverse ethnic groups – including the Iban, Bidayuh, and Orang Ulu – and explore the intricate relationship between these communities and their environment. Galleries like 'In Harmony with Nature' and 'Time Changes' guide visitors through the island’s evolution from the prehistoric to the modern era. Beyond its permanent collections, the museum serves as an educational hub, running programs and workshops for local and international visitors. Since opening in 2022, it has welcomed over a million people from 155 countries, establishing its place as a significant regional landmark.
