Based in World
As a travel blogger, I've always been driven by a deep curiosity about the world and a desire to share my experiences with others. My journey began with a simple love for exploring new places, but it quickly evolved into a passion for understanding different cultures, savoring unique cuisines, and uncovering hidden gems that most tourists overlook. The name of my blog, "Everybody Hates A Tourist," is a nod to a line from Pulp's song "Common People," and it reflects my philosophy of travel. To me, a tourist is someone who breezes through destinations, sticking to well-trodden paths without truly engaging with the local community. I strive to be the opposite: an immersive traveler who connects with people, learns their stories, and appreciates the nuances of their daily lives. I'm based in San Francisco, but my adventures have taken me to 43 countries and countless cities. I don't aim to simply check destinations off a list; instead, I seek to build lasting memories and gain a deeper understanding of the world. Whether it's sampling street food in Bangkok, hiking through the Scottish Highlands, or exploring the ancient ruins of Rome, I approach each experience with an open mind and a willingness to embrace the unexpected. Value travel is a concept I'm frequently asked about. It's about maximizing your budget, whatever that may be. I enjoy using airline miles to fly in business or first class, as these tickets provide the best value for your miles when booked correctly. Many of these miles were obtained by signing up for credit cards, but there are numerous other ways to earn free travel. The ability to work remotely is also beneficial. I like to splurge on local experiences.
