Grant Johnson

Grant Johnson co-founded Horizons Unlimited (HU) in 1997 with his wife, Susan Johnson, developing it into a vital global resource for overland travelers. His deep expertise draws from personal experiences, notably an eleven-year circumnavigation of the globe from 1987 to 1998. Undertaken two-up on a 1986 BMW R80 G/S, this remarkable journey covered over fifty countries across all continents, including Antarctica, and directly inspired Horizons Unlimited. His diverse background includes Canadian National Championships in road racing and motocross, a Gold Medal in cross-country racing, and experience as a mechanic, dealer, photographer, and writer. As CEO of Horizons Unlimited since 1998, Johnson inspires, informs, and connects a vast network of adventure riders worldwide. He organizes over twenty-three international HU Motorcycle Travellers Meetings, fosters the popular HUBB forum, and has developed more than eight hundred HU Communities. Additionally, he co-authored "The Achievable Dream: The Motorcycle Adventure Travel Guide" video series, offering practical advice, and organizes the FIM-sanctioned Horizons Unlimited Mountain Madness (HUMM) off-road challenges. Johnson’s philosophy centers on the belief that adventure travel is within anyone's reach, driving HU's mission to encourage and support aspiring and seasoned overland explorers. He champions a non-commercial approach to events, prioritizing community and the transformative impact of long-distance travel.
