As the governmental body managing tourism in Ecuador, the Ministry of Tourism anchors its national strategy in "Conscious Tourism" – an approach that positions travel as a vehicle for conservation and cultural respect. This guiding principle shapes policy and promotion across the country’s four distinct regions: the Andes, Amazon, Pacific Coast, and the Galápagos Islands. The Ministry regulates the use of natural resources, works to improve service quality, and coordinates with the private sector on international campaigns. This work has helped establish tourism as the third-largest source of non-oil revenue for the nation. The Ministry’s global campaigns, such as "All You Need Is Ecuador," have raised the country's profile, while new legal frameworks support industry development and employment. In 2024, Ecuador became the first country in the Americas to join the Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics and the first in its region to adopt the International Code for the Protection of Tourists. These actions reflect a long-term commitment to a sustainable and secure visitor experience, which has also earned international recognition at major travel fairs and industry awards.
