Tour Operator
Based in Kuching, Malaysia
The destination marketing organization for the Malaysian state of Sarawak, a region defined by its vast tropical rainforests and the cultural heritage of 34 indigenous ethnic groups. The Sarawak Tourism Board's strategy centers on five core pillars – Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food, and Festival. This framework guides the promotion of key assets, from Kuching’s status as a "World Craft City" to trekking expeditions in UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Mount Mulu and Niah National Parks. A commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism is central to its operations. The board integrates eco-friendly practices by regulating carrying capacities in protected areas and developing community-based tourism to empower local populations. This approach is internationally recognized, earning the board affiliate membership to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2023. As the principal organizer of signature events like the Rainforest World Music Festival and the Borneo Jazz Festival, the board continues to build global awareness for the state while maintaining its focus on ecological and cultural preservation.
